CNN —The Republican National Committee’s chief counsel Charlie Spies has resigned two months after accepting the position. Spies’ departure follows weeks of growing tension with RNC officials, a source familiar with the situation told CNN. His hire was one of a handful meant to “initiate battle on election integrity from an offensive instead of defensive posture,” LaCivita told CNN in a statement at the time. Trump originally approved of the hiring, one source told CNN, but sources said the former president was angered after his allies pointed to clips of Spies criticizing the false claims that the 2020 election was stolen. MEXICO CITY (AP) — The roof of a church collapsed in northern Mexico during a Mass on Sunday, and rescue teams rushed to begin searching for about 30 people believed to be trapped in the rubble, authorities said. The Tamaulipas state police said that about 100 people were in the church at the time of the collapse and that about 30 were still inside. Tamaulipas state police said units of the National Guard, the state police and state civil defense office and the Red Cross were at the scene seeking to rescue any victims. Photos published by local media showed what appeared to be a concrete and brick structure, with parts of the roof fallen almost to the ground. CNN —Mexican boxer Saul ‘Canelo’ Álvarez has sent a warning to Lionel Messi, who he accused of disrespecting Mexico. “Did you see Messi cleaning the floor with our shirt and flag??? ?” Álvarez tweeted, apparently referencing a video in which Messi appears to kick a Mexico shirt that is on the floor during Argentina’s celebrations in the changing room. There is no indication that Messi kicked the shirt intentionally, instead appearing to do it accidentally as he took off his football boots. She was discouraged from pursuing a career in music by her father but found joy performing for her family. Over the years, she sang for her family about her life and developed a collection of songs she composed. At the encouragement and support of her grandson, she eventually recorded and released collection of her songs in 2021. The Latin Grammy nomination came as a surprise to her, Álvarez told CNN en Español last month.
